Fundação Salinas do Samouco
An oasis in Lisbon
The Samouco Salinas are a protected nature conservation area
The Foundation exists to minimize the environmental impact associated with the construction of the Vasco da Gama Bridge, conserving its biodiversity. The new website conveys a more modern image and has improved the user experience.
BETWEEN SALINAS AND FLAMINGOS
Welcome to the Foundation for the Protection of Environmental Management of the Samouco Salinas, founded on November 28, 2000, to promote the conservation and maintenance of the Samouco Salinas.
The Tagus salt mines were the largest salt producers in the country, but currently only two produce salt.
Most of the birdlife in the Tagus estuary uses the marshes as a resting place during high tide, when non-flooded areas are scarce. During winter, more than 15,000 birds can be spotted regularly.
THE PROJECT
Salinasdosamouco.pt is a platform that links the salt flats to the Tagus estuary nature reserve, leading to the discovery of local biodiversity. At the same time, it serves to publicize various events associated with the preservation of the important natural heritage existing in the Samouco Salinas Complex, and the local identity heritage related to the maintenance of salt production, respecting artisanal techniques.
The site aims to convey a more modern image of the Foundation and a more pleasant user experience.
